DETOXgenes studies the genes most involved in the metabolic process of eliminating substances that we obtain from outside and whose effect is toxic in the organism (xenobiotics). Many of these products that we inhale or consume do not produce an immediate reaction, but rather gradually and chronically alter our health. For this reason, DETOXgenes is indicated for people who are highly exposed to these harmful substances and for those who do not eliminate them effectively and may show symptoms of fatigue or generalised malaise.

The importance of detoxification

Having a poor capacity to eliminate pollutants and toxins from the environment due to a lack of activity of some enzymes or an imbalance between metabolic steps can facilitate the accumulation of xenobiotics in the body, which can have a long-term negative impact on health.

What is analysed?

DETOXgenes evaluates polymorphisms of the most important enzymes in liver detoxification pathways: phase I reactions, phase II reactions (glutathione conjugation, methylation, sulphation, acetylation) and antioxidant defence. It also studies how our body metabolises heavy metals, epoxides and alcohol. Polymorphisms in these genes can lead to alterations in the metabolism of these xenobiotics leading to their accumulation.

Objectives

The objective of this profile is to evaluate the activity of liver metabolism to help the body eliminate harmful substances. Its application makes it possible to recommend personalised lifestyle and nutritional habits, both to improve health and to prevent certain pathologies.
