Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Before taking the test

How do I purchase?
It's as easy as selecting the test you need and adding it to your cart to checkout.
What payment methods do you have?
You can pay by credit or debit card, PayPal or bank transfer.
Is there a minimum age to take the test?
Although a person's genetics is invariable from the moment of birth, at Eugenomic, except in exceptional cases or in cases of immediate and necessary intervention for the patient (for example, a pharmacogenetic test for a treatment), we prefer that the person has the legal autonomy to decide. However, our tests are completely harmless and suitable for people of all ages.
Can I take the test if I am pregnant?
Of course. Your DNA does not change during pregnancy nor will it affect your test results.
What if I have just had surgery or am undergoing chemotherapy? Can I have a pharmacogenetic test?
These circumstances are no impediment to pharmacogenetic testing; in fact, it may be helpful for treatment.
If I have had an organ transplant, can I have a genetic test?
Having a transplanted organ is not usually an impediment to genetic testing, with the exception of those people with a liver transplant. The reason is because the genetic information collected in a liver metabolism test, either Pharmacogenetics or Preventive Medicine of hepatic detoxification (DETOXgenes), is genetic information from the donor, not the recipient. If you have a transplanted liver, it is important that you consult your case with our experts to determine whether or not it can affect the reliability of the test.

Sample collection

How will I receive the sample collection kit?
Once you have made the purchase, you will receive at your home the kit for the collection of the sample at the address you have indicated at the time of purchase.
How much time do I have to take the test?
Once you have the kit at home, you can take the sample when you consider within the expiration time of the elements that make up the kit. This information can be found on the sample collection containers or on the specific sample collection support (remember to follow the sample collection instructions to the letter), although if your test has been prescribed by a professional, we recommend that you do it as soon as possible. However, it is very important that, once the sample is taken, it is sent immediately to our facilities for processing.
How is the sample taken?
Inside the kit that we will send you, you will find everything you need to take the sample and send it to our facilities. To ensure the viability of the sample, please follow the instructions you will find inside the sample collection kit to the letter.
How do I send it to Eugenomic?
If you live in the peninsula, shipping and sample return costs are included in the price of the genetic test. For shipments outside the peninsula, the shipping costs will be reflected in the payment gateway at the time of your purchase. Follow the instructions that you will find inside your kit to send us the sample to our facilities or, if you prefer, you can bring it yourself. We are located in calle Londres 6 in Barcelona and our opening hours are Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to 18:30h and Fridays from 09:00 to 16:00h.
Can I come to your facilities to take the test?
Of course, once the purchase is made, call us at 93 292 29 63 and schedule a date and time with our customer service team. If you come to our facilities, no kit will be sent and a member of our nursing team will take a blood sample for your genetic test.

If you live outside of Barcelona or are unable to come to our center, our customer service team will direct you to the Eugenomic partner center closest to your location. We currently have partner centers in: Almeria, Granada, Huelva, Malaga, Seville, Seville, Zaragoza, Bilbao, Malgrat de Mar, Valencia, Alicante, Calpe, Caceres, Vigo, A Coruña, Santiago, Madrid and Murcia.
Are blood and saliva equally reliable?
Yes, the reliability is the same. However, in saliva samples, the DNA concentration may be lower; but that does not make it less reliable when it comes to obtaining your results. If you prefer to take a blood sample in our center in Barcelona, do not hesitate to call 93 292 29 63 and schedule a date and time for the sample collection.

Do I have to take the test on an empty stomach?
Preventive medicine, pharmacogenetic or microbiota analysis tests do not require fasting. In the case of special tests, and before performing the test, call us at 93 292 29 63 and a member of our team will inform you of the technical specifications of the test.

My results and my genetic predisposition

What kind of technology do you use to analyze my genes?
We work with a range of technologies including electrophoresis, Sanger sequencing, massive sequencing (NGS), SNP microarray, or real-time PCR. The technique or techniques are chosen according to the type of study to be performed.
When and how can I see my results?
Once the sample is received, it will be processed in the laboratory and, within 20-30 days, a detailed result report personalized with your genes will be generated. To see your results, you will need to follow these two simple steps:

What does it mean to have a genetic predisposition?
It means that you have a higher probability of developing a certain pathology. This predisposition is measured on the basis of the population average, but it does not guarantee that you will develop the disease. A genetic test gives you the information about this probability, so that you, together with your doctor, can apply the necessary preventive measures and controls.
Will I suffer from the disease if I am genetically predisposed to it?
Not necessarily. Having a genetic predisposition means that you have a higher probability of developing the disease, but it is not a certainty. In addition, in some diseases, such as multifactorial diseases, other factors besides genetics can influence its development. There are people without predisposition who will suffer from the disease anyway, and there are predisposed people who will never develop it, although they have a higher risk.
Do the genetic results of my test serve as a diagnostic test?
Most of our tests do not have a diagnostic purpose; that is, the information they contain will not determine whether you have a disease at the present time. On the other hand, we do have genetic tests that are 100% diagnostic of a disease or genetic trait, such as lactose intolerance or Gilbert's syndrome, for example. If you have doubts about whether a particular test is diagnostic or not, please contact us at 93 292 29 63.
What is Pharmacogenetics?
Pharmacogenetics is the science that studies the actions and interactions between drugs that can affect each person individually, according to their genes. We are all genetically unique, and the pharmacological treatment that works for one person may not necessarily be effective for another, neither in terms of the drug itself, nor in terms of its dosage.
What scientific evidence do your tests have?
Our selection of genetic markers is always based on data from scientific publications. We require that any marker we are going to use has a clear effect and that it has been described by different independent research studies reaching the same conclusions, or that it has demonstrated its predictive capacity in a trial.
How reliable are my results?
All results are reviewed by the technical team to ensure that the analytical techniques have worked correctly. Questionable results are repeated, usually by a different analytical method, to ensure an accurate result.

My genetic data

Will I have access to my genetic data?
At the end of the study we will provide you with a report that includes all the genetic data used in the test, identified with standardized terminology. The raw genetic data, as well as other unused genetic information, can be consulted by the patient, but we will not make use of this data.
Is my genetic data confidential?
All your information, which includes both genetic and personal data, is treated with absolute confidentiality. Apart from Eugenomic and the processing laboratory, only the requesting professional you have authorized and yourself have access to your data.
Is my DNA preserved or destroyed?
Your sample and the DNA extracted from it are kept temporarily in case additional or confirmatory tests are requested. Samples are destroyed within one to two years of collection but, if you wish, you may request destruction at any time.
Who has access to my genetic data?
Access to your genetic data is restricted to authorized Eugenomic staff, to the processing laboratory, as it is essential to provide the service requested of us and, of course, to yourself. If the genetic test has been prescribed for you by a healthcare professional and you do not tell us otherwise, your genetic data will also be available to them.
How do you protect patients' genetic data and personal data?
All your information is protected according to the European Data Protection Regulation. Your data is stored on our server, which can only be accessed by authorized Eugenomic users by authenticating their access. Delivery of results is made exclusively via the e-mail addresses specified by you, and any delivery by hand will be made exclusively to you. If you want someone else to have access to your data, you must give your explicit written permission.
