Age-related macular degeneration DNA test

MACULAgenes is a preventive study of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a painless, degenerative and chronically evolving retinal disease, that usually begins after age 50.

It is a disabling disease due to partial blindness and visual disturbances, which prevent activities such as reading or driving.

AMD is a multifactorial disease involving acquired risk factors (which can be modified) and inborn factors (they cannot be changed). Among the most important risk factors are smoking, sun exposure, overweight, alcohol consumption and hypertension, among others.

The disease is multifactorial and its etiology includes environmental and genetic risk factors, the latter representing approximately 85%.

First-degree relatives of patients suffering from AMD are at higher risk of developing the disease. Often, these people develop AMD at a younger age than their older relatives. At the moment, there is no medical or surgical treatment for this condition.

The form of AMD that analyzes the MACULAgenes profile is the "dry form" responsible for most cases of AMD.

MACULAgenes profile allows to know the genetic risk associated with AMD.

Knowing the individual risk, you can take preventive action to prevent their development, adopting habits, nutritional supplements and food, suitable to the genomic profile.

You will receive the sample collection kit. You can request additional kits if you need it.
